United IPR and ACACAP (Asian Coalition Against Anti-Counterfeiting And Piracy) with a common goal to sensitize the Indian Customs on IPR protection and enforcement at the territorial borders, recently concluded a successful Training at the Air Cargo Complex, Mumbai on 7th March, 2016.

A large consortium of globally well-known brands participated in the training, namely L’Oreal, Dior, Guerlain, Givenchy, Kenzo, Make Up For Ever, Lacoste, Levi’s, Crocs, Oakley, Fendi, Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, Ray-Ban, Victoria’s Secret, La Senza, Bath & Body Works, Pink, Henri Bendel, ghd (Good Hair Day), Monster Energy, Polo Ralph Lauren, Sony and Superdry.

The training was attended by 40 officials from Mumbai Customs, which included the Senior Officers (Commissioners) as well as the Appraisers, Examiners and Inspectors. The officials displayed immense curiosity in learning about the product identification features of the participating brands and shared encouraging written feedback, which, in a nut-shell included that:

  • the training was beneficial – an eye opener;
  • the training was informative and well presented;
  • such trainings must be organized at regular intervals;
  • the training would help the examiners in physical checks of the consignments;

The training has been successful in not only creating awareness amongst the Customs Officials but also informing them about the zero tolerance policy of the participating Right-Holders towards counterfeiting.
